Assignments

Assignments

So now that I have completed my Creative Media Practice module, I now have to focus on;

  • Final Project - Website/interactive documentary on ‘Fear Itself’.
  • Dissertation - On Reality TV; Formats and Second Screen.
  • Independent Report -  4000 word report focusing on a media company; Mocha TV.
  • Wow Statements

Final Project;
Thankfully I am working within a group for my final project and the group I am placed in we work really well together so, we should really enjoy this task. We have a plan of what we need to do so we just need to research and finally schedule our filming and editing to fit in with our other modules.

Dissertation;
I am currently researching for my dissertation reading a few books and finding some information that may help when coming to type up my dissertation, I’m looking forward to my tutorial meeting next week as it will give me an idea of what I need to focus on next.

Independent Report;
I have already had a meeting with the company and got the information needed for this report, also if I need anymore information the owner as explained I can always email him and he’ll get back as soon as possible, which is another bonus to this module. I am currently working on this report as I go along with other modules, I have typed up at least a quarter of this report already.

Wow Statements;
I have currently completed the first Wow statement focusing on reflection;
-Self Awareness
-Personal Values, Motivation, Drive & Energy
-Relating to Others
-Emotional Intelligence
Before I send the statement off I just need to read over to make sure I have mentioned all I need to say for each area in the statement. Once I have booked a slot for my statement to be marked I will then move onto the next statement that goes alongside my independent report.

So as you can see got a lot of work to be done, and not a lot of time to do it all, it seems there’s not a enough hours in the day, this year is flying by where already in November!

Creative Media Practice: Final Project

Final Project
Friday 1st November 2013 - Friday 8th November 2013

So after a stressful week last week, this week began great as I had already created some QR codes and I decided to plan out the tasks, I needed to complete such as; filming, editing, completing my presentation and also creating a leaflet to go alongside the presentation.

Monday - I decided to film the locations, that I had decided would have videos attached to them such as; St Luke’s, Ayrton Saunders Buildings, Bold Street. I found filming the locations really easy as I had the shots I wanted in my mind before so filming didn’t take to long.

Tuesday & Wednesday - On both days I made sure that I focused on editing each clips and adding the information to each clip. So on Tuesday I made sure the two locations that would contain the footage and text where completed which thankfully I completed on time. For the two videos I used Adobe After Effects which I thought was easy to edit with until I began editing on Adobe Premier.

So on Wednesday I decided to edit the last clip with Adobe Premier, this clip contains audio along with the footage. I thought editing this clip would be stressful, I was completely wrong as I found editing in this software rather easy. I felt using this software made everything fall into place, and made sure I had enough time to complete all the other tasks before my presentation time on Friday at 12.45pm and also to create the rest of the QR codes needed.

Thursday - As all the QR codes had been created the day before, I spent the day completing my presentation on prezi, I made sure that I had explained each locations properly and also discussed positives, negatives, developments and areas for improvements.

-An example of a positive would be that I found a lot of local history out that didn’t even know myself and has made me want to learn about more history of our city.

-An example of a negative would be that I didn’t use my time wisely for this project leaving everything till last minute and not being in the right mind frame on certain days.Another a negative of the project would be that I had the project all planned out in my head, but unfortunately the project did not look or work out the way I thought. It had the features I plan but the presentation was not as I planned in my head.

-An example of developing and improving this project would be expanding the the QR codes and stories, finding different locations outside of the city centre. Another would be using a range of media instead of just using; YouTube videos, Voice notes, Texts and Web Links e.g. I could of created a website containing all the stories and history for the locations.

I also created a leaflet contain all the images of the locations and QR codes so that it would be easier for anyone to scan the codes instead of trying to scan them off the presentation on the big screen. Along with the leaflet I also created a word document containing all information of my original ideas, proposal, outcomes, positives, negatives and also the developments.

Friday - So Friday was my presentation day, it began smoothly but for some strange reason I started to get nervous just before my set time. I think I started to become nervous because I wanted my presentation to be perfect and to run smoothly, thankfully my presentation ran smoothly without any hiccups. Also all my QR’s worked and my tutors could see all the media connected to them, which was another bonus!

After the presentation I received some feedback about what I could have done to the project, the feedback I received I agree with e.g. actually going to the locations and placing the QR codes on them, I would of done this with more time. I would of made a short video of somebody walking up to all five locations and scanning the bar codes, as this would explain who the QR codes work.

Altogether I have really enjoyed this project, I think I picked the right option of creating a project using QR codes and given the option again I would pick the same.

Below is the link to my Prezi presentation which consists of all the QR codes, make sure you have a smartphone that can scan QR codes so you don’t miss out also make sure you have headphones you may need them.

Creative Media Practice: Final Project

Final Project
Monday 28th October 2013 - Friday 1st November 2013

After coming up with my final project I spent the week researching different locations to use for this project.

My idea of locations changed all the time throughout the week but I finally decided on a number of locations, instead of doing each location on the presentation I picked five main locations to focus on;

-St Luke’s
-Elevator Studios
-Ayrton Saunders
-Philharmonic Hall
-Bold Street

For each of the locations I researched background history of the buildings e.g. what the building was used for previously and what it may be used for now. Also who helped create the building e.g. John Foster snr & Jr.

After collection research information for each location I then had to come up with what each QR code will connect to videos, voice notes, images, websites.

-St Luke’s will have two QR codes one connecting to the churches website and the other to a short video with footage from around the church and also some background history of the building.

-Elevator Studios will have a number of QR codes placed around the outside of the building, a number of QR codes will connect to voice notes which give brief notes about the history of the building. Other QR codes will connect to the elevator studios and baltic triangle websites.

-Ayrton Saunders will have a QR code which connects to a YouTube video which will contain video footage and still images of the building, the video will contain audio explaining the history of the building and also a personal story of working for the company.

-Philharmonic Hall will have three QR codes outside the entrance to the hall, one will connect to the halls official website which contains back ground history of the hall. Another will connect to a YouTube video which the Philharmonic Hall have created and posted themselves. The third QR will connect to the ‘People’s Stories - Liverpool Lives’ website which contains stories people have posted about the Hall.

-Bold Street will have QR codes placed at the bottom, middle and top of the street, each QR code will connect to videos containing facts about the street and what it was used for.

After building up research I have started making a few QR codes for a number of locations. To present my project I am going to use prezi so that everyone can get the idea, and also so that they don't have to go to the locations themselves as the presentation will explain it to them. Now that I have started creating the QR codes, I’m moving on to create the presentation the best I can. The only problem I have had during this project is that I have felt stressed with other deadlines that now I feel like I haven’t left myself enough time to create all the media on the QR codes perfect, but this point will help me when completing other deadlines making sure I manage my time better so that I am not rushing around last minute.

Creative Media Practice: Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal
Friday 25th October 2013

So todays session was about making sure we all had an idea, for our final project for this module. Weirdly enough my idea came to be late last night, I knew I wanted to do something with QR Codes as I found it really enjoyable when creating our location narrative for the mini brief a couple of weeks back. I also knew I wanted to base my idea/story in the city centre of Liverpool, my first thought was to use the iconic locations/buildings but after discussing with my tutor. Finding places that aren’t so iconic would tell a better story, which I intend to do with the QR Codes.

Other Side of Town - Proposal

For our Creative Media Practice project, I am hoping to create a story tour of Liverpool City Centre. As we all at one time or another stood and looked at a building and thought how the building would of looked like years ago or what it may have been used for. Well I am hoping this project will fix this problem, by allowing users to scan QR Codes on their smart phones as they are traveling past the building and locations used in this project.

The QR Codes will inform the users of history of the building/area and the story behind the scenes. When scanning the QR Codes users can either receive historical facts, videos, audios or still images.

The audience of this project will mostly be tourists to the city informing them of the areas that they wouldn’t normally go to within the city centre. The project will be free for the users as they only have to scan the QR Codes, businesses on the path of this story may gain clients who are interested in their business after the story being told through the QR Codes.

Along with history on areas and building, I am thinking users could find out people stories from many years ago, to do this I would link the ‘People Stories’ website to the QR Codes. Some people may want to add their own story. Hurricane films developed this idea so that anyone can add their own story, videos and pictures http://www.peoples-stories.com/index.php.

Examples of locations and areas that I am thinking of using for this project are;

-Hope Street   -Hanover Street/Duke Street; Ayrton Saunders   -Rodney Street
 -Bombed out Church    -Bold Street   -Everyman Theatre  -Renshaw Street; Grand Central

Creative Media Practice: Interactivity with YouTube Annotations

Interactivity with YouTube Annotations
Thursday 24th October 2013

Since last session we have spent all our time possible editing our clips. To edit the clips we used Adobe After Effects, as we had used this software in one of the other mini briefs, I found it really easy editing and creating the start of the timeline. We decided that to make it fair we would each have a go at editing so we all had a try at using the software, as we will have to know how to edit for when creating our individual projects at the end of this module.

So with having the first few seconds been created in the timeline we decided to learn how to edit the clips so that we could add video clips when the lift opens, we did this by using mask tool. Once the first clip was done, the others became easy and all where done in minutes. The only problem we had while editing in this session where; rending and also exporting the clips so that we could add them to our full timeline. A couple of times it felt like we had a hit brick wall, as we felt under pressure and couldn’t remember how to do certain tasks, but after calming down and asking for help we sorted our problem and moved on. We added a few notes on certain part of the timeline to help viewers understand the annotations. So after completing the editing we then uploaded the video onto YouTube and added annotations putting a start and end time for each annotations and making the viewers have the option to go back and try another annotation so they don’t have to finish the experience so quick. As we focused on editing and trying to make the clips perfect we ran out of time so we couldn’t add audio to our video.

As I said in my previous blog post if we had more time we would add more clips for each floor, also add audio for each clips that appear as the lift doors open, but while the character is in the lift they would have cheerful elevator music. Other than the problems we had I really enjoyed this brief, as I feel like its one of the ideas that we stuck will without changing the main idea. We only had to make a few changes to props etc, so I feel like it was a big bonus to see something work from beginning to end. To do this type of brief for our final project I think would be hard as theres a lot of work that has to be done and doing it on our own, I think would build pressure. Most of us are feeling the pressure with all the other university deadlines we have.

But on a happy note below is the link to our; YouTube Annotations.

Creative Media Practice: Interactivity with YouTube Annotations

Interactivity with YouTube Annotations
Friday 18th October 2013

This session of Creative Media Practice focused on Interactivity with YouTube annotations, so to introduce us into this task we watched our tutors prezi presentation which discussed the areas that can be used for interacting with YouTube such as; Play, Story, Education, Campaigns, Promotion, Websites. Some examples used on the presentation I found really enjoyable and could see myself looking them up again on YouTube such as the Tipp-Ex promotion interaction video as it allows us the viewers to re-write the story by just typing in a simple word.

Check out the link below to the prezi about Interactivity with YouTube Annotations;

So after the presentation we where set our brief to come up with an idea for our own YouTube Annotations, so we chose our groups and began to come up with ideas. Each member of our group had ideas, but we all agreed on one ideas! Our idea is that a character will enter into a lift and then the viewers can decide on which floor the character will go onto, but the lift is not any normal lift as the floors are all different locations and settings, you could call it a ‘Magical Lift’. Plus each time the viewers/character are taken back into the lift each floor are given another variety of locations/settings, so you don’t get taken to the same locations twice.

We decided that the viewers can pick from five floors, each floor will have three different locations/settings.

The locations/settings picked are;

  • Liverpool Docks    -University    -Crowd of People walking towards character
  • Field    -Buckingham Palace    -Eiffel Tower    -New York    -Jungle    -Desert
  • Sydney    -A Mountain    -A Boat    -Hurricane    -Taj Mahal    -Space

Thankfully we where able to film and download all the clips we need for our idea, which means that all we need to do during next week is to edit everything and then place them together in a timeline. So as a group we have decided to spend Wednesday & Thursday morning next week completing this task for our deadline.

This mini brief has been one of the best, as its so simple and it allows our viewers to interact with our work and not just sit and watch as we all know can get boring after a while. I think if I am going to pick this kind of brief and idea for my final product I think the idea could be expanded a little more maybe by allowing the viewers to pick which lift they want the character to use along with the different locations, another idea to expand this idea would be to have a larger amount of locations which could vary in each lift. One key point to this task would be to make sure I had enough time to find clips and edit them all into a timeline, if you run out off time and rush the product never looks as good as it should.

So make sure to check back to see our finished product!

Creative Media Practice: Isadora

Isadora
Friday 11th October 2013

Our third task for this module is focused on Isadora and interactivity, we had a background story of the software where it started and why. Isadora is an open ended interactive media presentation tool. There so much anyone can do using the software as there is over 250 basis building blocks that can be connected, to create manipulate stunning visuals, sonic environments and media intensive theatrical experiences.

In small groups we where given our mini brief, to decide on a short interactive narrative experience, that users can explore and engaged in the narrative. As it’s October our brief for this narrative is based around ‘Halloween’. So as a group we’ve decided to use materials such as; audio, stills, movie clips to create our interactive horror/haunting experience. So we’ve started planning our idea and research the internet for the materials where going to need but also to test to see if our narrative idea will work.

Our Narrative Idea;

-A Bates Motel still image at the start of the experience.
-Users will interact by making noises e.g. footsteps, knocking.
-Using & moving mouse will allow users to interact with some movie clips e.g. psycho shower scene.

So the list of material things we need for our Isadora narrative are;

-Doorbell Noise     -Scream Noise     -A person in a window clip/image
-Howling wind Noise     -Creaking Door Noise     -Door Opening clip
-Bats flying Noise     -Whispers of People Talking     -Shower Scene from Psycho

So from this week till next week as a group we need to collect the materials and also spending time getting use to the Isadora software.

Creative Media Practice: QR Codes

QR Codes
Thursday 10th October 2013

Our second task for this module is focused on QR Codes, after a small discussion about QR Codes our mini brief was set. In small groups we have conceive a plan and to build a narrative that is located around the Redmond's Building. For this brief we had to make sure we had a minimum of five QR Codes that could be placed in a location. Our QR Codes could be linked to; website URL, YouTube videos, Google Maps, Twitter, Blogs, plain texts, data etc. Our QR codes are for users to scan with their smart phones. We decided to stick to a simple narrative, but that would also have a meaningful story behind it and connect locations and objects together.

So for our group narrative we decided to go down the historical narrative route, for this prototype we used real stores about the location but also made some stories to make the prototype more realistic, as we didn’t have much time to search for a lot of stories about our location. Our location for the QR codes prototype is Rodney Street which is down the road from the Redmond’s building. We researched a little bit about the history of the street e.g. buildings, photographs, videos but also ghost stories about the streets. As we found out there is a gambler buried on the street.

Our narrative is simple but affective as you can imagine our idea being used with any street in the world, as people are able to find something new about an area but also be part of an experience. We designed our narrative so that users can either follow a route or start at an point in the narrative and they will still be able to figure out the idea straight away.

This mini task was enjoyable, the part that did take up most time was coming up with our narrative as we had an idea and then changed our minds a couple of times. But once we finalised the main idea everything fell into place, collecting all the different types of media, downloading them was so fast and easy to do. Only problems we had was with Google Maps, as Google has changed the setup, as we where pushed for time we couldn’t spend a large amount of time learning how to use it, so we had a quick change of plan and decided that we would present our prototype on prezi to show a real idea of our narrative.

I really enjoyed this mini brief, and I’m thinking this maybe the task I want to do for my final project. To do this for my final project then I would make sure I manage my time better, to make sure I have enough time on each area; researching, planning, creating, learning software/tools. But also to make sure everything works successful, so that viewers can get the whole experience of the QR codes and the narrative.

Below is the link to our prezi showing our QR narrative check it out;

Creative Media Practice: Triptych & Multiscreen

Triptych & Multiscreen
Thursday 3rd October 2013

To start off our Creative Media Practice we had a short introduction into the module and the individual tasks. After the short introduction we then moved into our first task ‘Triptych & Multiscreen’ discussing screen narrative, split screen, we spoke about how images using spilt screen can tell a story without doing anything, to prove this we where shown examples of images. We were also shown a variety of films using spilt screens.

Once the discussion about Triptych & Multiscreen was completed we where given our mini brief. Our brief is to; come up with a narrative that plays across three screens. So to start off our brief we had to come with ideas and also to develop our concept before we could start planning our narrative and creating the triptych. As a small group we came up with a few ideas;

  • Real Life vs Reality
  • Bad Day (POV of a persons bad day)
  • Phone Call
  • Peoples View on Reality & The world around

We decided on the Bad Day (POV) idea, so we began to create our story board & shot lists, so we could just grab a camera and start capturing the clips we need. We also choose specific locations for each part of the narrative. So after planning we started filming with the time left we had, then uploaded all the clips ready to edit and start to build our triptych.

Friday 4th October 2013

As we had all our clips uploaded on the PC, we decided to recap how to use After Effects, once we had the hang of After Effects again editing our Triptych became so much easier. But as we only started editing the same morning as the deadline we didn’t have enough time to make everything perfect for our Triptych, but as a group we where made up to get all our clips into the sequence, even if it is without audio as we thought we wouldn’t complete the sequence in time. As this mini brief was only set for us to find out which software and techniques we would like to use for our final project, I enjoyed creating the triptych and using After Effects. But if I decide to do Triptych again I think one main point I will make sure I do is to do a schedule, so that I have a certain about of time to focus on specific tasks needed to create the Triptych e.g; clips, audios, effects. Below is our YouTube Triptych video;

3rd & Final Year!

So back to being a student can’t believe this is my third and final year, the past two years have just disappeared in a blink. This year will probably be the same and before I know it I won’t be a student anymore. Scary to think I’ll be graduating at the age of 20, is that to young to graduate? I am just thankful to have a great summer off and actually going on holiday, as I’m rested and ready for the assignments this year brings. Even though I feel ready for this year the thought of writing a 8,000 word dissertation terrifies me, and also having to start thinking about getting a real job at the end of this year!

Deadlines

So tomorrow is deadline day for:

- My Blog
- Applied Media Research Essay on cross platforms

I remember thinking at the start of the year 'Oh no I have to update my blog again'. Last year I thought it was just a pain to do, but this year it hasn't bothered me as much. Maybe because I've felt more settled in uni this year OR maybe because this year I have made notes for my blog so I knew to update it. But who knows.

Even though tomorrow in deadline day, we still have two more deadlines to meet before our second year is complete. Over this year I have kept a note on all grades I have received and looking back I'm happy on what I have achieved I just hope I do as well on my blog, essay, presentation and report only time will tell.

But overall I have enjoyed this year a lot more than last year. I just hope I can find a work placement which will set me up for my third year and maybe lead me into a career path.

Convergence Media Teamwork

So today only myself and Ceri turned up to uni from our team of four, as the others where completing their essays for another module. So the session started off with a small introduction of what we need to be doing for this module. We were asked to create a presentation for next week to explain to our tutors and also the class where we are up to with our stories or campaign.

So myself and Ceri decided that we would place all the content we have up to now onto a prezi;

- ALL IMAGES WE HAD TAKEN LAST WEEK
- STORY/PLOT
- PLATFORMS WE WILL BE USING FOR THE STORY TO BE TOLD
- CHARACTERS FOR THE STORY

For each of the characters we had made email accounts on gmail, having all the characters on gmail will allow us to connect them as friends. Alongside creating character emails we started to create a website which will be the main place for all the platforms to be based.

Not long left until our final presentation which will be our completed story. I'm really looking forward to seeing our story completed. Check out our presentation for next weeks session, just to warn you it's not completed just yet but will be before the deadline next week.

Convergence Media Teamwork - Little Red Riding Hood Presentation

Wednesday, 6 March 2013

Applied Media Research

So over the last two weeks or so I've been typing up my 3000 word essay on cross platforms. I don't know why but I worry about essays every time! I must just be a person that worries too much!

But all that is left to do on my essay is to read over it and send it off on Friday, and to celebrate by going out for a meal with old friends, which I think is well deserved. (If I do say so myself)

Convergence Media Teamwork

Over the last two CMT sessions we have discussed the little red riding hood story, for which we will be following and telling through transmedia.

Our main idea for the story are;

  • The viewers will take the role of Little Red Riding Hood.
  • The wolf characters, would be a group/gang of friends that are into drugs. They will try to pressure Little Red Riding Hood into taking drugs.
  • The grandma character will be a victim of drug abuse, but will try to show Little Red Riding Hood the effects of what drugs can do.
  • The woodcutter character will be a support worker, also trying to show the effects of drugs.

Here are some of the points we came up with;

  • The main place that will hold all information for the story will be a website.
  • For characters of the story we will create social networking account for them e.g. Twitter, Facebook.
  • Video Diaries from characters OR voice memos from characters.
  • Blogs
  • Google Maps
  • Images to help tell the story.
Our idea may change slightly, that will all happen in time. We decided after our last session that we would go around the city centre and take some of our own images for the part about gangs and the google maps. Check out some of my images below!

Catch Up Over The Past Week 11/2/13 - 15/2/13

So on monday we had a CV writing workshop, to help us write a winning CV. Giving us pointers on what we need to include in our CVS and what not too. Also at the workshop our tutors explained what modules we may have next year and also about finding work placements, a placement that has been offered to us is;

  • At Lime Pictures
  • Variety of Roles Available
  • Two Weeks Paid Placements
  • 6 Places Available

I’ve typed up my CV and covering letter, just need to check over them before submitting them. I think I would really enjoy this placement, having a work experience will help me make up my mind about what I would like to do after uni!

On the Tuesday I had a personal tutor meeting with Camilla, catching up on how I’m finding uni. What I would like to be doing once I’ve graduated from uni. Ways of helpling me with things, I may be stuck on while at uni. Before the meeting I thought that it wouldn’t be helpful, but a 15 minute meeting turned into a half an hour meeting. I didn’t realise I could talk that much. I felt so much better after having the meeting, it has made me look forward to what is next in my life. (I know slightly cheesy).

On the Thursday we had a writing workshop, to help us understand how to write academic essays. Also how to move up a couple of marks with our writing. The tips that I found out in this workshop, I’ll keep for my up and coming reports, essays, dissertations etc.

Digital Media Cultures

So as I mentioned in a previous post, that myself and Hayley had planned our report. Well today was the day we started and completed our report about each of the journals about TV Formats. Having a plan made it so much easier as we knew what we had to do! We planned that we would have two journals each to talk about and then we would talk about the last journal together. I enjoyed the way we worked as a team, as we got the report done in plenty of time. Which means we don’t have to worry about the report and sending it off.

Convergence Media Teamwork

Todays session consisted of us getting our brief set, our brief is split into two tasks;

  • Task 1 - Presentation 15-20 minutes 50% (Due 28th March)
  • Task 1a - Personal Contribution To Team 10%
  • Task 2 - Individual Report 40%

We have been asked to decide whether to create a trans media story, by taking a fairytale and adapting it. OR to create a transmedia campaign about something we are upset about. As none of us in our group could think about something we were angry about, we decided to adapt a fairytale. The one we chose was little red riding hood, as a group we decided to create a Facebook group so that we can develop our idea and also be able to put all our research information in one place. There is still a lot of development needed on our idea, which we will do over the next couple of days/weeks. Personally I think this assignment seems like its going to be fun!

Digital Media Cultures

So today all we had to do was to turn up to a meeting with Keith our tutor, to discuss the report. He helped to give us a format to follow when writing our report, giving us ideas how to start the report and how to conclude the report about the five articles we had found. After the meeting we decided as a group to have a team meeting and to come up with a plan before we start writing our report. After sorting our report plan we decided that we would write our report after our lecture on Thursday. I’m looking forward to starting it now, I don’t feel as stressed as I normally do when writing essays or reports, maybe because I’m doing this report with a partner!

Convergence Media Teamwork

Todays session was all about transmedia activism what it is and types of companies that use transmedia activism! An area looked at in the session was why do people join social networks;

  • Maybe to socialize
  • To work together
  • To have topical discussions
  • Or to share interests

Using social media shares a range of things; participation - openness - conversation - community - connectedness. An example of social media who used transmedia activism we looked at was the Green Peace campaign about Barbie & Ken

Digital Media Cultures

In todays session was about research strategies and methods for dissertations. The session consisted of tips we could use when writing any essays, research resources we can use; books, journals, audio, visual archives, official websites e.g. BBC or Ofcom. The session also went into detail about using journals, the internet and readings for essays. At the end we had an example of a plan for an essay/dissertation about TV formats.

Applied Media Research

So this weeks session was our presentation. For most of the week and also the session we prepared for the presentation, making sure we all knew what we were doing. While preparing we notice that a couple of times when we went to save the prezi, we had problems. But in the end we fixed it, until we walked into present our presentation. When we tried to put our presentation up in a different room the prezi wouldn’t load, which meant that we had to swap our presentation time with the final group so we could fix the problem. Finally after a long wait we did our presentation with no more problems, it was such a relief to have it over and done with! Check our prezi with the link below!

Convergence Media Teamwork

So in this session we had a presentation about narrative structure. After the presentation were then asked to get into groups of three, myself, phoebe and lois made up our group, as we knew we work well as a group and we would get on with the task asked. Once in our group we were then given an image of a persons face, to which we had to put objects or images next to the image. So that other people could make up their own story from the objects. Check out our image story board and see what story you come up with from the images and objects!

Digital Media Cultures

So todays blog post is only short as we only really focused on one area, which was writing techniques which we should use in our reports. And also when we come to writing our dissertation, in our third year. I can’t believe how far but how close it actually is to our third year.

Applied Media Research

This blog post is only short  as we only had another group meeting about out presentations, discussing any problems we may have or any help we need with certain research. After the meeting myself and Michael decided to collect all our research we had at this point and to start building our prezi presentation. We have decided that a couple of days next week we will complete our prezi, and will also practice the presentation before we have to do it in front of our tutors.

Convergence Media Teamwork

So I have decided from now on in this blog i’m shortening convergence media teamwork down to CMT, its too long to write all the time!

So in our second session of CMT we had a recap of what we had spoken about in the last session e.g trans media. Once we had a re-cap we been set a task which was to pick a fairytale and create a back story to one of the characters within the story, which hadn’t been spoken about in the original story. To do this we were placed into groups with three or four members in, our group decided we would pick ‘The Elves and The Shoe Maker’.

  • We decided to use Buddy the elf, from the movie ELF, and explain that he had decided to stay and live in New York with his elf friends.
  • But they would become addicted to gambling and would owe money to loan sharks. So they decided to look for jobs and see a shoe maker advertising one. They decided they would help him, without him knowing.
  • They would make fabulous shoes of a night so no one would see them.
  • The fairy god mother from the fairytale Cinderella would come into the shop and buy a pair of the shoes from the shoemaker.
  • The elves get caught by the shoemaker, so they decide to rob the money from the shoemaker, so they can pay the loan sharks off.
  • And the rest of the story is down to the viewers/audience.

After coming up with the story we had to come up with media platforms that users could use to be part of the story. Some ideas I thought of where;

  • They could fill in an application form for the job offer for the elves. This could be done through a website or a blog.
  • They could play a game for the part of the story where the elves become addicted to gambling etc.

As you can probably tell I was in a group with three lads, their ideas for the story rubbed off on me. Check out the picture below of our storyboard, which tells our story.
